Can politicans monitor text messages for keywords to use for campaigning?
Maybe it's just a coincidence, but I sent a friend a text message about Obama being in town, and about ten minutes later I got a campaign text message against Obama. I thought it was strange that it happened shortly after the text I sent. Are there keywords that trigger a campaign text? If so, it seems like an invasion of privacy!

No, not for texts.

But if you make such a post on Twitter, that absolutely is monitored.

text or email?

Texts, no.

Because a number of email companies now routinely tailor advertising on their sites to key words from your email. It's a bit disconcerting to call a coworker a witch and then notice that the advertisements are offering you links to the New Orleans Black Magic shop.
