Has anyone played second life the video game?
Is it free? Is it like the sims? Is it fun?

Hate to disagree with the other person, but it's not like the sims and it's not fun (although that's just my opinion). It's more like a large 3D world chat room where you move your avatar from place to place chatting with others (if you find anyone) or interacting with the equipment you find there. Although you can be anything you want for your avatar, you aren't guiding it through life like a sims game. Want to be a dragon? Buy a dragon costume. Want to be superman? Buy a superman costume.

It's more of a social gathering / networking program than an actual game.

Im going to agree and disagree with the above noted answers.

First of all - it is NOT like sims. It isnt really a game at all, there are no levels, no aspirations and not motive. The game is, essentially like the second person said, a 3d Platform for meeting, chatting, gathering.

But - it is fun. Fun is relative and most often is what you make of it. Unlike other chat programs and platforms like facebook - in Second Life, you have an Avatar, which is your persona. You dress, style, and transform the avatar to whatever you want. (But theres no greening or deteriation of yoru persona - unless you join a combat community, and the options are endless, you arent limited to bulky mesh and poor recolors).

Likewise, there are hundreds of different role playing communities within second life, so at any given time there are 10 different games you can play. The is combat RPG, social RPG, etc.

To give you an idea of whats availble in SL to customize your avatar, check out this link:
