How can I get a summer job as interpreter or translator of Polish?

I'm 17, I live in Swansea, UK. I'm a native Polish speaker, and I've been living in UK for 2 years. I was thinking that maybe some companies might need an interpreter, as there are lots of Polish people here. Any ideas??

Hi, I'm sure there will be a demand for Polish interpretation/translation.

My guess being mostly in recruitment and selection. Therefore for job agencies, or companies generally, when they look at documents viz. visas or references.

Also, maybe help the emergency services, especially the police. You could ensure the legal Polish migrants are dealt with correctly, but the illegals deported.

Another option may be with local community centres. Where there could be a move to hold an event to welcome the Polish workers to that area. However, you might have to persuade the organisers of the viability of this.

I see from your other question you asked about private tutoring. "Tak", LOL! Seriously, though, you got excellent answers already with that one. Aswell as children I am sure there will be adults who would like to learn Polish. Maybe they are planning a business trip or holiday to Poland, or even trying to get a Polish boyfriend/girlfriend.

Therefore, I suggest you do the following :-

- Equipment:
Use a laptop PC to type notes
(for printing and/or 'burning').

- Qualifications:
Use a folder to display your certs.

- Promotion:
Use call cards, posters and flyers.
Also use Facebook and Twitter.
With Twitter use various 'hashtags' to target potential clients.

Examples being:

#Wales #Swansea #Polish #Business #Community #Services, and so on.

Call yourself something like:

- 'Swansea Polish-English Translation Services'

and on Twitter maybe this:

- '@Pol-Eng_Translator'

BTW I think you would also make a good counsellor. I saw your answer for the 14 year old. Something else you could do, albeit if not qualified then just very basic help.

Do remember to inform the British tax revenue authority (HMRC) of your plans.
