How do I convince my parents to let me have a facebook?

I'm in high school, but I don't have a facebook. My older sister didn't get one until she was a senior, but I almost never know any big news with my friends until it's old news. I want to convince my parents to let me get one, but how do I do it?

I wasn't allowed it but I got one anyway and I just deleted my browsing history each day so they didn't know. I just said it helps the computer to run faster lol.

tell them that you will use it to help socialise with your friends and you will get more confident and better at english??

Make a list of this that you will put on facebook, and things that you won't. For example, you should NEVER put personal information as it might be found out by other people and be used against you (fraud, etc.).

Things that you should never put:
- Personal pictures (especially those where we see you throwing up...)
- Real birthdate
- Address
- Personal information about other people than you

Also, you should limit the amount of time you spend on it. It can be very overwhelming, so limit that time.

If you show your parents that you're responsible enough to use it, they should let you.

you don't say what they have against it, but here are some ideas:

Facebook is extremely useful for keeping in contact with people in group projects. it's pretty much the most efficient way to do it, and if you don't have a facebook it is likely you won't know what is going with the group.

Facebook is a social tool and friends are important. it's important to keep in touch.

if they are worried that you'll get in trouble using it, let them know it's really easy to set up privacy settings so creepers can't find you.

tell them they could get one as well if they want.

I admire your style and your desire for open and honest communication with your parents. Talk to them. Find out what their fear is. They've likely read or heard stories of Internet sex and God-knows-what and are afraid that you will not be able to handle a social website - when actually, that is probably the safest way to experiment with social relationships. If you can get them to openly talk about it, I think you will be on the road to making it happen. And your sister might be able to also speak on your behalf... Good luck to you... It may require more than one consultation, so be prepared to end the discussion with the issue unresolved - that's much better than a 'no'...
