What are some diseases that could cause you to permanently lose your voice?

I am writing a story about a girl whos twin sister gets a disease that makes her lose the aility to speak. I have one problem, and that is what disease should she have??? I want to find a medical condition that could cause you to lose your voice forever. Something dengerous, but not always fatal. Im kinda scared to go searching diseases online so any ideas?
