How on earth is it possible for my brother to log on to my account from a different laptop?

he could have accessed your computer through remote desktop.

Its possible that he have got your password somehow and using a remote desktop to connect to your laptop. Smart thing, would be to disable remote Desktop, which could be done from Control Panel -> System -> Remote. Try that.

Its is very likely that he have got your password one way or another and used remote desktop to connect to your laptop. Smart thing, would be to disable remote Desktop, which could be done from Control Panel --->System ---> Remote.
