What Should I Wear To A Christmas Tree Lighting?
I'm going to a Christmas Tree lighting with this really cute boy, his sister(one of my best friends) and his parents. It's at the National Harbor so around the water is going to be really cold (its supposed to be 35 in the city) Any suggestions of really cute outfits (hair too) and makeup to wear. I have brown hair ( past shoulder length) and hazel eyes if that helps.

You might want to ask you best friend what she'll be wearing to help you gauge how formal the event will be. You don't want to show up in a dress while everyone else is in jeans (unless you normally dress up). Then, since you probably want to impress the boy, take it up a notch.

Because of the weather I suggest staying away from a dress unless you have a high tolerance for cold.

If its super casual, try an over-sized sweater and skinny jeans paired with boots. Over-sized sweaters happens to be our trend of the week so visit our blog for more tips on how to pull it off: reinventmywardrobe.tumblr.com.

You can also swap out the over-sized sweater for a fitted knit or cardigan. If you have one in white that would be great.

If its casual (but not super casual), wear a blazer or structured jacket over a top of your choice. Wear a cold weather jacket on top of this. The layers will keep you warm but still stylish when you take you coat off.

To make this a bit more formal try a jean trouser or a jean with a slight flare and throw on a heel. It can be a boot with a heel or a pump if you like.

Accessorize with metallics or sequin accents. Something with a bit of shine and shimmer in it to give it a more festive feel. You can do this in a scarf as well as jewelry to help you keep warm.

If you choose a more casual outfit you might want a hairstyle that's more put together rather than messy (such as messy buns or loose braids) to help balance out the look. Maybe some nice waves? The opposite holds for the blazer look. Try some sort of loose up-do to balance the formality of the jacket. If you want to dress up the jacket then try a more formal style. This can be done by simply adding volume to straight hair as well.

For makeup I suggest doing what you normally do. If you don't wear make-up everyday then some mascara (and foundation and/or concealer to even out your complexion if you need to) is enough. Unless your friend tells you its going to be a formal event or if your going out to a nice restaurant afterwards, keep it simple. If you like to wear eye make-up, this is a good way to add some of that festive shimmer.
