how can I get connected with current events?
Seem silly that I'd ask this, but I want to get into more current events. cnn.com msnbs.com and gereral news doesn't seem to cut it for me. I want to get connected politically and learn more about what's going on int he world. I'm just tired of crap news and scare tactics and want to learn more about what's going on in America and in the world. What are some good links to credible news sources for upcoming economy and politics in the US and in the world?

The only pure thing your going to get is CSPAN. Unedited, its exactly what the politicians say word for word, how people stand. Watch how people vote, what they make speeches about, their beliefs, etc. Stay away from Fox though...

You can find that all on CSPAN

I think you should sign up to twitter and search for topics that interest you. For example search for: #londonriots or #libya or #gfc

The hash tag goes at the start of the key term; people place the key terms within their tweets so they they turn up in searches. It takes a bit of getting used to but after a while you will find some great sources of information, and will no longer have to rely on the dumbed down mainstream media.

You will get to know which twitter feeds to follow and key terms to search for as you read through various posts. Many people post links to great articles / blogs from all around the world. You have to of course still critically evaluate the credibility of each article.

Also look on your twitter homepage to see which topics are trending, and search for these Smile

Try the BBC News Service in the U.K. They seem to be reasonably Fair in Their reporting...
