Is having facebook or myspace good for my career?
I am an actress/model/singer and im really tired of drama on facebook and myspace...But i dont want to delete it if its going to help my career. Help!!
A little more info on my career so far. Im in the actors guilde. Have done 4 Runway shows, 2 photo shoots, 1 commercial, 1 actual print add. I really want to delete my facebook. Would it be better if i started up a myspace but only professional? A kind of compromise?

You need to keep your facebook page up. Social media is a huge part of exposure these days. If anyone tries to create drama on your page, just don't react and delete or block them from your page.

Depends on who is connected to you on FB. Some performers only connect with other performers and casting directors and get gigs out of it.

Others use it to keep contact with their fans (venues, tour updates, work)--so it's really up to you.

A lot of times I have heard on the News that Facebook etc has cost people there jobs. Employers have fired/not hired people b/c of the pics/content they posted on Facebook. I don't think it will effect you if you wanted to delete it. Start a blog to promote yourself too. You can control what people comment and I think it is better and more effective (less drama). Also, add yourself to the IMDB ( Internet Movie Database) website. I did this, and my name pops up in google every time. It helps get your name out there and allows you to post the shows you have done (resume). My name also comes up with my blog too. Even if you wanted to delete your account from Facebook, it will always remain there...my friends have already tried to quit, but there info is still out there in cyber space. Always think twice about what you post online, whether it be Facebook, Blogger, Myspace, whatever. Never post anything that can be used against you, or something you would be embarrassed if your mother found out. These are good rules to follow, especially if you are going into the public eye such as acting/singing/modeling. You have to be so careful these days.

Just looking at your question I would say no. But given the nature of the stuff you want to do changes things. But it's still better to not have it.

Some have said that employers look at those sites when they want to hire. And if the see something they don't like they may very well not hire you. Why take the risk? Just don't have a page.

Most people that do what you want to do got a myspace page or whatever, after they got famous. Basically for publicity and to stay current. Most people that do it before get nowhere. They seem desperate.

It's your call. But these websites seem to be only filled with kids. Thus this "drama" you speak of.
