I like Nicki Minaj and Kesha because I do. But if I REALLY think about it, I still do. I understand if you don't like today's music and there's nothing wrong with that. But music is just a bunch of sounds. There's no such thing as "real" or "good" music. No one defines their past on what was the hit songs. People look back at what they did, not what Journey or the Beatles did. And if you think the worst thing to do is make horrible music, than you are crazy.

However, I'm wondering what year you were born. People have ALWAYS been obsessed with stuff like how rich and cool and famous their were since the 40's. That's nothing new. Especially obsessing how beautiful and sexy they were. People have always been this shallow. And I don't see how what you ate for breakfast is a bad thing :/.

Whats up man I'm 19 and here's my take on these so called musicians these days. They can suck it lol their music is horrible!! All the feeling of writing a song is gone when it comes to the "in" music. Now modern rock has some good bands left but flame is dying out. The best music is from the 50s-through the 70s when they wrote songs that actually meant something real not like the music now days. Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, black sabbath, lynyrd skynyrd, Elvis, the Hollies, the temptations...all of them!!. THATS MUSIC!!!!. And frankly I'm embarrassed for those people who love the music of today that's on the radio.

I'm 15. I listen to a huge variety of music. My favorites are probably pop and/or rock. But I still listen to some country, and to some rap, and blues, and metal, and like seriously, everything, even the older songs. I guess if I had to choose, my least favorite would be rap and country simply because I don't always like the beat/music behind the singer. I'm fine with the lyrics.

Music is a way of expressing yourself. Who's to say its "good" or "bad"? Sure, people have different ways of expressing themselves. Who's to judge? Some people prefer to listen to pointless dance songs, that they can just let go and not give a thing about anything and simply dance, or scream to it. It makes them feel better, feel higher, feel awesome. Even if the song is about sex and drugs. But not ALL pop is about sex and drugs. That is a stereotype, in my opinion.
For instance:
Price tag- Jessie Jay
Written in the Stars
I'm not sure if this one counts as Pop, but I know it was really popular for at least a little but:
Pumped up Kicks- Foster the People
If you cared to listen to the actual lyrics to these songs, they have really deep meanings. Price tag would probably be the easiest to figure out. There are a ton of others. And a lot of other pop songs are about love, which older songs expressed to, just in a different way.

Now, some people actually like listening to the slower, sadder songs there are. Because they like how those songs make them feel. I love these songs too, especially when I need a good cry.

And then the heavier beat rock songs, again, make certain people feel a certain way. We still have Linkin Park, and other bands that still make this music.

I disagree about the only thing that matters is how rich you are, and swag and YOLO. I think this generation is something different-- I think we are all about expressing ourselves. I mean, I see kids wearing stuff that was popular back in 90s. I see kids wearing goth. I see gays totaling owning up to it, the girls who put on so much make-up, the hipsters, the cute little animal hats, there are so many different styles out there today. I've never actually said YOLO or SWAG before, but I'm beginning to understand why people do.

Stop being so closed-minded and thinking EVERYONE your age does ONE thing. Cause that is just not true. I know plenty of kids who listen to both pop and older music. I like it all. A lot of kids don't follow the media at all.

I'm 16 and I like Asking Alexandria, All Time Low, Avenged Sevenfold, Falling In Reverse, Bring Me The Horizon, We Are The In Crowd, Tonight Alive, Hey Monday, Eyes Set To Kill, Black Veil Brides, The Ready Set, Snow White's Poison Bite, Sleeping With Sirens, Blessthefall, Lights, Paramore, Pierce The Veil, Motionless In White, Hands Like Houses, Catching Your Clouds.

I dislike rap strongly, but music that may be terrible to you may be great to someone else. It's all about personal tastes.

I listen to pretty much every thing. But here's what I've been into lately: city and colour, NAS, tupac, inhale exhale, between the buried and me, converge, pierce the veil, Craig Owens solo work.

I am 17, when I was a baby I listened to Micheal Jackson.. My parents would play his music for me to eat. For some strange reason I liked it from the beginning of my life. Then, I was updated to something update at those times.. Like, Puff Daddy's I Will Be Missing You and The Police's Every Breath You Take. They had this catchy tune.. I loved the sound of a guitar and the bass at it.. But soon, I was blinded by the 90s boy bands.. I was listening to both NSYNC and Backstreet Boys.. I used to dance to their music, as if I was trying to impress a girl. Then I went to more alternative music from 90s..
I remember singing songs like Cold Play - Yellow.. And then I was hit.. Anything I listened on the radio was subjected to my mind.. Anything on the radio, I would be listening to that.

But my Parents wasn't done with me.. Every time they were on the road.. We had this 80s and 70s Greatest Hits albums.. Songs like "Open Arms" "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" "My Girl" "Wonderful World" and the like.. Although, at that time in my childhood. I said "I hate old music." But I never knew the music I loved was old.. I kept listening and listening to my music.

When I was 10 I was that type of rowdy, emotional preteen attitude. My Parents said I was developing fast, and so was my music.. I listened to a bit of country, hip hop, rap, alternative, and rock at the time of 2000-2005.. Most notable artists I liked were, Eminem, Ludacris, John Mayer, and more.. I eventually got into the Good Charlotte, Blink 182, Matchbox 20, and Green Day fad.. I was a depressed child from the sudden over look at this music.

The angst stage continued.. BUT THEN! BAM! GUITAR HERO CAME OUT IN STORES..
Now, at this moment.. I was already listening to ALL the music I hear in GTA: Vice City
So I liked 80s Music.. But I wasn't sure. At the same time I was into Anime, and constantly listening to JPOP. Although I was listening to the radio still. I eventually got tired of listening to Shakira and turned off my radio FOR GOOD. I wasn't sure to get Guitar Hero.. Till GUITAR HERO 2 came out..

In the past I would complain why guitar solos are short.. But as soon as I played Guitar Hero 2..
I would find my place in a genre that I haven't heard the likes of before..
It was different, it was emotional.. And I boy.. did I love it.
But I still kept quiet.. My friends would always ask about today's music..
But I didn't care! I loved ROCK MUSIC. It was like something I wanted everyone to hear..
No one didn't care. They called me weird and old..

I loved tons of Rock bands. I could careless about Chris Brown, Ne-Yo or any artist at that time.
They couldn't deliver what I listened in my house every day.
My passion for rock moved to different types of Rock, slow rock, hard rock, progressive, folk rock..
Blues, Metal, Grunge, Screamo.
I listened to all the music my family disliked and my Dad hated.
My family and friends said it was NOISE.

It was ROCK.
But I was a 60-80s music lover.. I soon learned to love other artists during 60-80s in different genres
As music from 2008-2012 came in..
Music was so bad, I thought 2000-2005 was way better!
During 2008-2012 I learned more about The Beatles, AC/DC, and KISS more than I ever did in my childhood. Everyone thought I was boring for listening to that music. I was an outkast in my highschool. It would be like that for the entire 4 years in highschool.
Now I'm in college, music is just as bad..
But the only modern music I liked was
Adele- Skyfall
But even that song sounded like the past..
I like Gangnam Style.. But I was the type who understands lyrics..
While my friends followed a trend shouting "GANGNAM STYLE!" in public
(I'm still in Asia btw.)
They don't even know what its about. Yet, they make fools of themselves.
Even the Koreans in my area laugh at them.
I think music choice is really sad these days.
I honestly think that a lot of kids have tight preferences to music.
Hell, I even LOVE OPERA AND CLASSICAL MUSIC NOW.
My friends? They can't even feel emotions from a song.
They think its stupid and sounds weird.. But its all about the emotion and feeling.
My music is very broad.. But I don't listen to anything Mainstream.. Cause its just annoying and bland.. Every time I listen, I feel like I'm listening to the same stuff over and over but its different artists!
Kids laugh at my music choice. But they're not mature enough to feel it in heart.
Today's music makes brains dead.. Cause honestly? There is no meaning in it anymore.
