Perform for Youtube and other media sites, Facebook and any other social networks are the best spots to start on the internet. There's plenty of music sites as well, playlist might not cut it for you because everyone is looking for top bands and other bigger groups with their names spread out there. You can always check out underground music sites as well.

Hey, just to piggy-back off of the other answers, I think they are all very good.

People are correct in stating that online marketing is your best bet under our assumption that your marketing budget is limited.

Pursue the following online avenues listed in order of importance.

1) Social media: Post all youtube videos and song recordings on Facebook, YouTube, leave links to new songs on Twitter, build your Twitter following, etc.

2) Photo networking sites: Take photos of your jams and post on photobucket and Flickr, people love sharing photos and its a good place to find people.

3) Submit your song lyrics and images to social bookmarking sites. Also include links to your main website and/or myspace. Why is that? Because if your stuff is truly good, social bookmarking provides the ultimate digitial democracy from which to get voted to the top. If enough people "digg" or "stumble upon" your stuff, it will be posted in the featured column on top, and can literally get thousands of views a day.

4) scan youtube for covers and find a cover song that has not been done well yet and do it really, really well. This can be a great way to "ride the wave," of the current trend. If you look at some youtube sensation like Keenan Cahill, who does nothing but lip sync songs, you can see someone get very famous very fast just riding the wave. Although it is likely this approach may be offensive to your artistic tastes, please remember that a goldmine is worthless unless there is someone around to extract the gold. So get famous first, then worry about your creative ethics.

5) Do a podcast. A lot of people still look for good podcasts because they cant figure out how to get continually streaming, original good music otherwise. Create a podcast featuring your own work, as well as the work of some of your influences and stream it on a free podcast site.

6) Get a branding concept and distinct look and feel for your band. One of the biggest elements behind engaging audiences is not just sounding different, but having a whole image, a whole brand concept that distinguishes you. I included a cool app I found in the citations section that will spit out free branding ideas for you.

Good luck!
