Photography a new trend amongst teenage girls?
Asking this again

Does anybody else notice that photography is becoming very popular for teenage girls. I'm constantly seeing girls with cameras around their neck and requests on facebook to like their photography fan page. To be honest some of them arent that good. I see alot of cliche black and white photos of a random object. Also at my high school the photography class is entirely full. Have you noticed this

it is cos the cameras are smaller in size, and cheaper in cost... so lots of women (and teen girls) can use them without having to worry about photography being stuck with boring old men...

besides, most teen girls seem to like taking pics of themselves semi-naked in mirrors or self-portraits or of flowers or random out-of-focus household junk...

I enjoy photography and it isn't SO popular here in NZ but it's getting that way.
I genuinely have a love for taking photo's and would love to make a career out of it, but I HAVE been noticing some girls on Facebook saying things like "oh, _____ only started trying out photography because I thought it was cool" so it is seeming to become the next "it thing" which is rather annoying..
And I agree, a lot of these girls AREN'T good at it. It gets them attention.

The teen years are a time of exploration, self discovery and self definement. Music has been the method of these expressions for decades. Prior to digital, the processing cost of film prevented many kids from using photography to explore their feelings. To be honest, our high school's photography class was always full, even in the film era.I do find that gender is not an issue, males are just as interested, however I do see that females tend to put their images "out there" more than males. Perhaps they are less ashamed of expressing their feelings? Perhaps the approval of others is more important to females?

Yes you are right but I think that photography is now a part of our life just because of our social activities as you know every person has his / her more than 3 social networks and then he / she becomes cruise of photography so its simple to understand

Photography has always been a popular hobby but over the last few years cameras have become cheaper than ever before, and more convenient. You don't need to spend lots of money and you don't need to learn too much to begin. In the past it took lots of money and dedication to start doing photography. Now the barrier to entry is lower than ever before.

This isn't "good" or "bad". Most of these people will never become pros and will get tired of the hobby in a year or two - just the same as most boys who play football will never turn pro.

Let people enjoy their hobby, even if they suck at it Smile

The trend is more to do with technology, and Mobile phones, webcams, iPads, and cameras that can now connect to each other, wifi, network, the cost of living way up, inflation and wage increase, has driven up the prices of quality cameras, and down the prices of p&s cameras , which are common place, but phone and ipod type devices are the new standard, with that more photos and blogging ,

with that the social networking via sites like this, and Facebook, and twitter, statistical demographics and humans intellectual abilities to communicate and connect, females are more apt to negate better in one sense, and verbal or visual represent themselves sincerely,
The problem with all people male or female; more so youth, sometimes elderly, is that they don't get it, or get the level of exposure via internet,
