Which is the Best Search Engine?
The popular ones are just business boosters and they prevent introduction of other search engines for their own reputation. Is there any way to do just raw search? Any other known good engines? What about searching from the address bar itself?

I have switched to google chrome. another is firefox, dogpile, or mozilla. google chrome allows you to search from the address bar.

Google is always a safe bet for most search queries, and most of the time your search will be successful on the very first page of search results. Yahoo is also a great choice, and finds a lot of stuff that Google does not necessarily pick up. Read more about general search engines...More http://www.expertinseo.com/searchengineoptimization.htm

there are many other search engines, of course which are not very much popular like our major search engines, viz., google, msnlive, yahooand the like.
But if you wish to use search engines other than these, then I suggest,
ask, lycos, altavista, alltheweb, technorati, bloglines, a9, goodsearch.....
I hope these will be sufficient.

The best search engine, imo, is Google. Nothing else gives me the accuracy that I look for, on a consistent basis.

I also like twitter search:

http://search.twitter.com

It's up-to-the-minute results. Not great for a ton of things, but breaking news, trends, etc -- it's way better than Google.

If you don't like traditional search engines, maybe meta search engines will suit you better:
