get to know them - ask them what they are doing, what movies they like. A simple "hi, how are you? watcha doing?" is fine

This will help you look well rounded and interesting on the social network. Also... Twitter Grader gives you options to search from related to specific keywords you are interested in. And... With the new look of Twitter you can easily find a trending topic that is of direct interest to you that could be tweeted about. Simply put, the more you are yourself on social networking sites the greater your perceived valued whill be and the more people will engage with you.
