I have to write an essay about something that we do in our society that will be looked at as stupid and criticized hundreds of years from now. For example, how we're so materialistic. But I can't think of any topics! Any ideas? It can be something we do or believe or how we act or whatever

I think that people will look back and see how materialistic our society is. We put too great a value on material objects, rather than things that matter most in life. Instead of people following their passions and dreams, we put too much emphasis on the belief that more money = success and happiness (which is not true). Hopefully, hundreds of years from now, people will think much differently.

Good luck on your project, Bum!

The lack of basic health care for EVERY American.

Sure, they can go to an emergency room if they have no choice, but even then the hospitals will go after them for payment and ruin their credit scores.

We are the ONLY industrialized nation in the world that doesn't provide affordable or free healthcare to its citizens.

Actually i think it will be capitalism/corporation
Compitition between every buiseness makes people bitter towards others and selfish. People often question why people can sue people for no real reason this is why. People are brainwashed into becoming selfish, thus the American Dream. Our economy is based on greed not work. People in cities you will often find them just fending for themselves, did you hear about the homeless man that bled out for hours on the sidewalk with people walking around him not bothering to even call the police?

Im no communist but i think that we can do better than what we have

A quick yet un-biased glance over the course of human history will reveal that the greatest advancements in the condition of humanity have risen through the diligent pursuit of humanitarianism by the socio-economically deprived. Our standards of acceptable human conduct are in a state of constant improvement. Consider that only half a century ago ( assuming you live in the United States) this nation was divided by race-- a heinous primitivity.

To answer your question: We will question the values of contemporary society. A value system that places a great emphasis on profit than on the well-being of humanity itself. A billion people are suffering at this very moment due directly as a result of poverty, we do not lack food, we have within our possession sufficient food for billions more than the global population. The figure of starvation rises and falls with the tides of the economy.

The citizens of a wiser society will cringe when they study the history of a nation that whilst millions cannot afford to treat critical ailments, billions of dollars are allocated to systematic murder of entire populations under the blatantly false and deceptive pretense of "national defense."

While the world is over run with entirely preventable social atrocities, our leaders speculate on matters of free market enterprises-- the very mechanisms that have exploited millions, ravaged enviornments, made possible this economic recession and have paved the way to the metaphorical hell which will soon overrun this forsaken world.

Hopefully mankind will progress beyond this stage by then and the questions that will be asked is ......
-- How did people back then become so insensitive that they could walk on by as a child cries, a woman is beaten, a person starves to death in the streets, or innocent people are killed in front of our faces and we just keep walking?
-- Why did not society restructure their political system when they knew the government was deceiving the people? Letting the rich get richer while the poor gave all they had for nothing and paid for the mansions the bureaucratic fat cats live in?
-- Why is it that only the upper class get the opportunity to have a decent education or go to prestigious schools? A child born with a silver spoon in their mouth isn't any smarter than one born with a plastic spoon in theirs!

This is just a couple off the top of my head. I hope it gives you some ideas!
