The stronger economies of the rest of the world + the economic problems of the US especially fears of recession because of the subprime woes.

Your simple questions cannot be simply answered, but here is my take on it.
Years ago Jimmy Carter, and enacted by Bill Clinton, delivered the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). It was designed to assist third world countries in developing their market place in the world. American company's seeing the tax advantages began moving their opperatons to other wordly cities, thus producing jobs at lower costs, escaping government taxations and various regulatory requirements like retirement plans, social security, days/months off for child bearing etc. which all eat into a companies bottom line.

Unfortunately for us in the US, it has caused loss of employment for both white and blue collar jobs.

When you combine the goal of radical terrorist groups, which is to disrupt our economy, the purist way of doing so, is to force this country into a war.
The war in Afganistan is costing this country $80 million dollars a month and while the US is spending huge amounts of dollars in this venue, at the same time, big company's like Maytag, John Deere, and Consolidated Freightway's are moving elsewhere. We are now borrowing money from other countries like China to fend our war, while losing income from our manufacturing industries.

We are stuck with this war effort, its my opinion that if we don't stay the course, these terrorist will strike again. Next time with Iran's big bombs once they get them made.

I also feel that our leaders should revisit the NAFTA program.

While it takes $8.00 or so American dollars to get $5.00 Euro dollars, all is not bad, the fact that our dollar is worth-less, means that other countries are buyimg our products because its cheaper to do so, which means those American company's will produce more goods to sell, thus our manufacturing and employment levels should remain stable. Hope this helps.
