Looking for info about how Twitter works?
I know the basics - you select people to follow and you see their updates. When you post updates, your followers see your updates.

What I'm interested is the more specific things like whether your followers can see tweets you receive from other people. Any other information you want to share would be appreciated.

I run a movie theatre and I'm considering starting a Twitter account to send out updates about what's coming and going and any other special information.

It's not like facebook where everyone sees the stream on your "wall."
If you send out a tweet, it only goes to people who have signed up for it.
So there would be no way to advertise to anyone who didn't specifically request access to your tweets.

I'd say that's a pretty good idea, despite the limitations of Twitter's Web interface. In general, a user's timeline includes only the stuff that user has tweeted. If it's a reply, the link includes a link back to what is being replied to (after "in reply to" in small print).

I suggest that you install a front end to manage Twitter, rather than try to work the Web page. (I'm mostly happy with TweetDeck, which sends alerts if anyone I'm following tweets, or if anyone at all mentions me.)
