What were the positive effects of the hippie movement?

I personally LOVE the 60's, they were a time of peace, war, and internal conflict.
Hippies were the next generation of cool, also known as the baby-boomer generation. Never before had so many people been under the age of 25.
Much of the Hippie movement was concentrated around Height and Ashbury, two streets in San Francisco. This created a large culture movement, people would travel to this place to watch the Hippies.
The hippies were focused on creating a Utopian Society, where clothes, food, and love was all taken care of. People would get free food from farmers who couldn't sell their food at markets.
Hippies were also known for their drug use. The phrase, "Turn on" was meant for their use of LSD. They viewed the drug use for spiritual purposes, thinking that it helped them reach a higher state of consciousness. However, during the end of the hippie movement, many people were experiencing bad trips, and the meaning of the movement was lost. Thus, the Death Of Hippie.
Now, they didn't necessarily make it better for the Vietnam War. The protesters weren't part of the Hippie Movement. Socially, the movement opened the eyes to a more utopian society, however, it didn't work out for very long. The flood of young people to San Francisco.
A lot of the Hippie culture was based on the bohemian styles of Indian culture, which brought a new element to our american stye culture that has stayed with us today.
The 60's also left us with an amazing musical culture. the Hippies, unlike the Beatniks, liked the sunshine and rock and roll, as apposed to dark coffee houses and jazz.
I hope this answeres your question.

Questioning authority
MUSIC
Rejecting corporate america
PEACE AND LOVE
Bringing eastern spirituality to the west
LOVE OF ART
The thing is that most of the hippies quit. This is sad. However, the ideals still exist and ALWAYS WILL...
Anyone who says they didn't do anything are coming from the perspective that the industrial world is progress, when it is anything but. Hippies had it right, just like the natives.
