Is it okay to get a twitter just to follow people?

I don't really keep up with internet etiquette, for example someone yelled at me for using a # on facebook.
I was wondering if it's okay/weird to get a twitter account just to follow people and not to ever tweet anything?

hahah yeah that's ok dude. most or at least a huge amount of twitters are just ones to follow people.

don't worry about what people on the internet think of u, although using # on facebook is lame.

Yes, it's fine.  I mainly use my account to follow good journalists, musicians I'm interested in, and funny people.

You're not alone. The majority of Twitter users only follow. And the ones that DO send out Tweets, are far and few between compared to someone who posts regular updates.
