One option: Focus on a niche market (a single subject or specific 'theme' for your blog). One strategy to attract viewers to your blog is to only write about a specific subject or theme.

Multiple posts talking about related topics garner the attention of the search engines. To increase your chances of being found online, research in-demand keywords related to your subject and then use them throughout your writing. This is a predictable way to build up traffic, but there is a bit of lag time between posting and being indexed by the major search engines.

To generate traffic from the search engines, you need to be posting often. Some people say a minimum of three times per week. Researching the in-demand keywords relating to your topic and then using them in your posts will help a great deal.

It also helps tremendously to have other related sites linking to your blog. This third-party endorsement increases the visibility of your site at the search engines. Spend time answering questions in forums or use social media like Facebook and Twitter to help build your online profile.

Write a press release talking about your blog and send it directly to media and organizations which have an interest in your subject. It never hurts to let people know you exist, but you need to ready for scrutiny if you are soliciting attention.

My guess is that you are trying to grow your viewership because you would eventually like to monetize it? If that is true, I'll include a few links below which you may find helpful. There are some excellent paid blogging opportunities but for many people, it is a lot of effort for the money being made.

All the best!
Bryan
