"free" market like we've been ever since Ronhole Raygun pulled his scams on us?
Oh, but these private plans are the ultimate in desirability. "Defined contribution" means you could end up with more than you started with, THEORETICALLY. How's THAT working out? Ads |

SINCE we the taxpayer pay for both their healthcare and retirement.........I don't see this happening anytime soon.

Privatizing Social Security is a Republican goal - in fact - Bush tried to push for that in his 7th year as a "legacy" issue.

They believe that they are there to run our lives, which is basically exactly backwards. They are OUR hired help, for them to further grease their own wheels should have never been tolerated. If someone worked for me, not that any of them do, but if they did and then gave themselves a raise. I don't recall being part of the negotiations so I wouldn't pay it. What are they going to do? Get a JOB? not likely.

The health care system that covers Members of Congress also covers over 9 million other federal employees and retirees. This program—the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP) and is similar to the health plans offered by many large private companies, except because of it's size it offers more options. The employee chooses which private insurer they want and the level of coverage and the government pay 3/4 cost up to a maximum amount. Most choose Blue Cross Blue Shield which anyone can get
