It's hard to say exactly how much data, but overall it's not much since Twitter is mostly just text. It's probably not any more than the data used by emailing or surfing the web. You will use lots more data if you do things like download or stream music or videos, or download pictures and apps.

Well it's using the internet so you should look at how much data that takes.
If you use it excessively like everybody else with nothing to do then you'll probably use between 10 and 20mb opening and updating the app.
