How to Market My Small Business Online?
I recently opened a small boutique in Manhattan and want to know what are the free ways to market or advertise my business on line. I use Craigslist and CitySearch, but no such luck. Is their a website like myspace that can attract local shoppers?

As you may have realized, traditional marketing has changed rapidly. Don't take my word for it, Try this:
Type: BMW on Google Local, Yahoo Local You will see a store listings, choose one of the Store Listing, you see a business page, with 4 ads on the page and links to other dealers. Type BMW on http://www.thelocalindex.com You will see BMW’s, click one, and click go to store. You will see their Whole Inventory Online. Yes we are in beta, meaning we are currently adding Google Maps for directions to each store, Coupons for discounts to customers, a URL to direct customers to your store (example†http://www.thelocalindex.com/ Your Store Name) and alot more including Youtube videos, Slide: Slideshows, the ability to share on Myspace, Facebook, Flikr. A Contact Importer to import current customers to your new store, with announcements to keep them updated on your business. Local Business events, networking events and a whole lot more. The Local Index, is the best resource for local businesses because we promote top local businesses via Radio, Television and Printed Media. The Goal of this site is to reintroduce the concept of local businesses to consumers as the hip, hot new thing. Instead of Pizza Hut, Walmart, Circuit City and Etc. Have you done your keyword homework? THAT is step #1.
Here's your crash course in getting mad biz to your biz. (Please google this, the URL is way too long) Adwords External Keyword Tool This is free. Use it to create a local Adwords campaign where you bid on words for your industry. You can run this on a very local level. THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! You will need to track which words turn into sales... Google has a free "drop in code" to put in your website which will do this. Use it. Here is why: You're going to start with a list of 500-1000 keywords for your industry. Some of these words will never be searched... some of these words will get you clicks... some of these words will drive business to your Boutique. Those words, the ones that drive biz are the ones you will optimize your page for. Time to discover: 30 days Cost: I have no idea. It costs per click, but failure to do this will cost you far more in bad ideas and wasted money. Trust me, I was once in your shoes! FYI: the reason you're not seeing luck is because 1st you're using a phonebook and 2nd you're not optimizing Craigs for what your customers are searching for. Rule #1: get out of the phone book Rule #2: get out of the phone book Nobody uses that crap any more. Free, but lengthy method: Return to our Google Keyword tool and find the 3-4 word terms in your local area that have a decent search volume. Take those terms and create a useful information rich blog around each. Find out which one gets both the most traffic as well as the most new biz. That's your luck charm! When we come back... well learn how to become a media resource and have radio stations calling you! ... but now a word from our sponsor... |

The important things in any type of marketing are :
• Establishing trust and rapport with the customer • Understanding customers' requrements • Providing real benefits and not mere promises • Having your very own USP (unique selling proposition) to sustain the competiton. • Using low cost but effective means of advertizing & marketing . Life is becoming faster & faster, nobody has time to visit to your site.No matter how great the products you're selling are, people aren't going to beat a path to your door to get them. You need to bring the products to the customers. So DIRECT marketing is the BEST strategy. |
