It seams like a Libertarian dream. No taxes, no real central government. Free enterprize liasse faire capitalism.

Most liberatarians are realistic and know that 100% capitalism and no government is about as realistic as 100% marxism with no government. They want government minimized, not eliminated completely.

On the plus side, Somalia has the cheapest mobile phone service in the entire world, and it's apparently actually fairly good, because there are no obstructions to open competition.

This argument is getting old. Somolia has no government. Libertarians advocate for a small Federal Government. Your little story neglects the state governments we have. Read a book or something and quit being so ignorant.

Libertarians are not anarchists.

I think all conservatives should head to Mogadishu immediately. It sounds like their utopian society.

People that think wanting small government means Somalia are really to stupid to live. Please find a high cliff and jump. Thanks.

It's more like the anarchist's dream. Libertarians never advocated anarchy.

actually, when the central government in somalia fell, the people were better off then when there was a national government...

"In 2005, Somalia ranked in the top 50 percent in six of our 13 measures, and ranked near the bottom in only three: infant mortality, immunization rates, and access to improved water sources. This compares favorably with circumstances in 1990, when Somalia last had a government and was ranked in the bottom 50 percent for all seven of the measures for which we had that year’s data: death rate, infant mortality, life expectancy, main telephone lines, tuberculosis, and immunization for measles and DTP."

if somalia, a country that had been riddled by wars for years, a country with little or no resources, a country with poor technology and little wealth, faired this much better without a federal government, just think how much better america would be with all the resources, technology and wealth we have.

You have to applaud libertarians for their stones: they want everything privatized and they don't want to pay any taxes, they want all social issues resolved by a 'free market', but they "never said they don't want any government at all!" Yes, they are always very careful to remind us they "never said they don't want any government at all"... right after they DESCRIBE their preference for no government at all. My favorite is the posting from 'sadcryinsack' (or whatever that screen name is) who actually PROVES conditions in Somalia are improved without government by citing economic statistics (because after all, the math can't lie, can it?) Somalia IS a perfect textbook libertarian utopia. Hoorah for cheap cell phones with reliable service! Our lives have statistically improved!
