yea you can promote your site but you need to get alot of followers ....and its not going to be that good of promotion but you can get some business from twitter.......i prefer you promote your site like on craigslist or youtube before you promote on twitter

but the best place to promote your website is on the search engines hands down! thousands of people are garaunteed to find your website everyday on google or yahoo

go to Freewebsitetraffic.tv they will put our site first page of the search engines in 24 hours for thousands of views

The idea of using social media is to engage with the discussions going on the internet. To 'promote' is possibly too brash... do you go up to your friends and pitch to them. "Hey, buy my product..."

I've just finished reading the 'New Community Rules: Marketing on the Social Web' - it's a great book for those new to social marketing like me. Have a look on Amazon.

Like others have said, you need followers. What's the point in talking if you have no one to talk to? This comes through a lot of graft and by becoming known as a credible and valueable source of infomation.

Yes ,you can use Twitter to promote your website and business. If you don't have one already, you can also automate twitter to to get more leads. What's great about automating twitter, you can pick the location you want to target. I know. I work for a real estate company and the Realtor I work for uses a twitter automate software to get more clients. Also you do get more followers on twitter and you can auto message too. There's a lot of people on twitter that use twitter for business and to promote their blog or website(s). Here is some information concerning the software for your business in the future. You can even try out their free demo which gives you 250 follows and 10 automatic messages and tweets. Hope your business goes well.

Hi Happy Girl,

I have 25,000+ followers on twitter and I promote my perfume site on it everyday. I do a keyword search and then talk to people who are looking to a certain perfume or cologne.
I also post coupon codes, specials to my followers
I also announce new launches thru twitter.

You can listen to my interview hoe I promote my brand on twitter or get my FREE e book.

YES of course! That's what a lot people use it for as it is very easy to just throw a tinyurl with a one line explanation of your website or product. The key is to get as many followers as possible! Always follow your followers as that will help you to gain more followers! See my link below on how to Monetize your website or products on Twitter. Good Luck!
