How do people get successful careers in art or film?
I've heard it just takes money and connections.. and usually money=connections. I know people work so hard, with or without college degrees that fail all the same. What makes those lucky few?

The few lucky ones that actually make it are the ones that have a passion for it and enjoy what they do. The better at it u are, the more money u will make.

You don't necessarily need money to make connections. In order to become successful in the art world you would need to go out and meet people such as going to certain events, clubs, bars, etc that are exclusive; remember most of the exclusive events in Los Angeles have a dress code so in order to get in you must dress the part. Also social medias like twitter, tumblr and facebook helps further your popularity and even internships increase your chances of getting your "foot in the door". There have been a couple of 13 year old girls in the past that have been asked to attend high-end fashion shows and collaborate with some of the designers on a clothing line because of their prominent blogs. Nevertheless, Its all about how well you market yourself...
