After WWII ended late1945 the US was the only major world power left unscathed by the war and not blown up...The UK, Russia, China, Japan were all crippled and down, the US behind it's great oceans on either side, was left...virtually untouched.. and intact. To our eternal credit the US acted to 'extend' it's range over Europe and West Asia to help/ protect the defeated people and rebuild them,...BUT...this was also to US benefit...If we had NOT helped we would've lived on a 'dead and ruined' planet outside of North America.... By helping, and rebuilding the rest of the devastated world after WWII, we built new markets, and 'captive markets', totally for ourselves and dependent on us... for our goods/ protection/ support etc., the rest of the world able to give no competition.
When the rest of the world recovered from WWII after a generation of 40 years (by 1985) we in the US went into a tailspin of losing our dominance..
