I want to start my own website, and make money off the advertisements of other websites?

First I would have to ask is it possible to make money like this, and if it is what would be the requirements. Secondly if there is a book that someone may be able to recommend or anywhere I can gain some type of insight into this market. Any help that I can get is greatly appreciated, thank you.

You CAN make money at this, but most people don't because the revenue is quite small (average is about $500 a year) and it takes a while to happen.
