There are so many ways to generate the traffic.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is your starting point for getting traffic. After all, Google has to "like" your web pages, and people have to be able to find them. All SEO means is making your pages human and Google friendly.

There is no magic formula to get organic traffic to your site. You should work for it with heart and soul. It appears that you are new to website marketing (Meta or Beta Tags). Before starting your website, do a thorough research on Industry related keywords. There are few tools which can help http://www.keyworddiscovery.com and they offer a free key word research. Another easy method is to identify your competitor and get the keywords from their Meta Tags. But this is not recommended as your competitor maynot have researched the keywords properly. Once you have decided the keywords, write content for your website with about a keyword density of 2-5% . Your content should be keyword rich but please avoid keyword stuffing. Name your files/folders based on the keywords. ie Instead of naming a folder as "file1" use "monkeys" if your site is related to monkeys. Have the Meta Tags done and optimize the content , images (provide keyword related image names) and files.

Generating traffic depends on your website niche and utilizing the effective strategies from time to time. For eg. reciprocal links and 3 way links were considered the important factor at one time, but you may get penalized for that now. I can recommend the following steps based on our success.
