Do you believe that the political ideology of most Americans is somewhere in the middle?

Political pundits would have you believe that all Americans are on the fringe ideologically. Most of what you hear on cable news speaks of "far-left loons" and "far-right bigots". I disagree, I believe the vast majority of Americans are somewhere in the center. Do you identify as far-right or left? Also why do you think it is that the media plays to the fringe?

Yes it is. I know the bloggers on here are far right and far left, but the majority of Americans are in the middle. Every presidential election is decided by "middle" America, as the far right and far left always vote for their particular candidate. That is why most political candidates, at least during election, attempt to sell themselves as being moderate (and why Sara Palin will never be president)

Yes. Most people have some conservative and some liberal views. Pundits want people to think that Republican equals 100% conservative and Democrat equals 100% liberal, but that is not true. Most of us, myself included, don't really know enough about many issues to even have an opinion. I do not label myself or others with an ideology. The 'media' doesn't play to the fringe, however, 24/7 news entertainment cables shows do.

Most Americans support social security, medicare, unemployment and bankruptcy protection, so most Americans are clearly not far right. Most Americans also believe in capitalism and the free market system, so they are clearly not to the far left. The fact of the matter is that most Americans support the system we've had over the last 80 years, which is basically a free market system infused with some socialism. It is a hybrid. So, "somewhere in the middle" is an accurate description.

The vast majority of Americans are too politically ignorant to have an ideology.

That explains the elections of Nixon, Ronald Retard, and Pres Cheney for two terms; and the volatile flipflops: mid-term 2006, where the Dems won the House, Senate, 36 govs and and many state legis. Compare that to 2010.
