Twitter help please!!?

Okay, I attempted to join Twitter about a year ago and just couldn't make sense of any of it!
...So frustrating as every single other person in the universe seems to understand it perfectly fine.

I've decided to give it another go ... still makes no sense and google is completely unhelpful so thought I'd see if you guys can give me a hand?

I'm on facebook to keep up to date with friends and I'm wanting to use Twitter to be nosey for celebs

The following things I don't understand: (This is going to be long so if your tired I'd just stop reading now.)

If, for example, a particular person is NOT 'following' anybody at all, does this mean they don't see any posts from anyone? then if someone is following them and they 'tag' them (i.e @whoever) in a tweet do they see this tweet? are they notified of it like in facebook?

ReTweet (RT) is this solely for if you like what someone has wrote and you want to 'spread the word' ... Also do people use this to communicate instead of direct message? For example do they see the Tweet then ReTweet it & add a message or response to the end? If so does the original tweeter get notified of it?

What exactly does adding a Tweet to your favorites do? I've followed a few celebs and from what I can see every single Tweet from them has "50+ retweets and 50+favorites" does this mean people are saving everything this particular celeb has said for future reference or something? Again does the original tweeter get notified that 50+ people have 'favorites' or 'retweeted' their tweet? (Geez, this is confusing stuff!)

If you click on a person/celebs profile is what you see all of their tweets along with every tweet people have 'tagged' them in? or does it just list a few? or does it just list the tweets the person has 'retweeted' - will apologies at this point for making no sense at all but I can't word it any differently!!

Underneath a tweet you have the option to Reply? Does this send a private message to the user?

There's probably alot more I don't understand but my brain is fried right now.... I'd appreciate if anybody can make sense of what I just wrote and help me figure it out.

1) When someone isn't following anyone that mean they can't see anyone's tweets on their timeline but they can see there mention when the " @(Twittername)"
2) Retweeting someone's tweet means you like their tweet and basically spreading the word
3) Saving someone's tweet as a favorite mean you can always see that sweet and you loved that tweet commonly for celebs
4) If you click on a celebs profile you can see their tweets including mentions if they reply back to a fan and their retweets
5) Reply back to a mention not private if you want to prive someone go to their profiile you'll see a lil down arrow and click direct message
