A movie website? If you are actually showing movies and do not have formal permission from the legitimate owner of the respective copyrights, you should keep a little quiet about your site - otherwise you could find yourself being sued for tens of thousands of dollars

There are lots of things, adding to directories, and putting out videos for example. Social marketing (twitter etc) and article marketing. But if you are ranking low on search engines, you might want to look into the structure of the site, and make some positive changes there, as well as doing more keyword research, and perhaps adding written content to the site.

If you are talking specifically about increasing visitors through organic seo:

take the keywords you are ranking best for and work exclusively on those until they climb the ranks.
focus your efforts on a few keywords at a time.
write blog posts on that topic/keyword every day (I know, it's a lot of work but you did say free)
write an article or two on that topic but don't post the article to your site, syndicate it out first to ezine articles. only after approved there, spin the article and syndicate it out to all the other article directories (go articles, article dashboard, etc)
