Role of government in a totally free market economy?

In a totally free market or capitalist economy, what role does the government have? Would government exist? I have a Social Final Exam tomorrow, so I was just wondering. With no need for government regulation, would we need government?

In order for a free market to exist, one must be secure in his ability to own property. This includes contract law, police forces, and rules for publicly held companies.
