What are some things that can be done to get the price of oil to go down?

Here are some ideas and why they have't been implemented:

1) Drill oil and use the stockpile we currently have. The reason the drilling hasn't taken place is because of liberal based thinking that this would ruin the enviornment and after BP spilled plenty of oil last year, Americans would be reluctant to allow oil companies to drill freely. Also, some believe that this would actualley have no affect on oil.
2) Limit the amount of taxes on oil to lower the price. Reluctant to do so because of the deficit we currently face, whether as nation or within each particular state it also may have little impact on overall price.
3) Regulate speculators and commodities trader to ensure everything being done is ethical. Conservatives wouldn't be too fond of this because they'd rather have a free market and would argue where do we draw the line on control of business.
4) Limit our impact militarily in other countries such as Iraq, Libya, and Afganistan to support our sentiment and make peace with these countries. Conservatives would argue that unlike liberal belief, arab countries aren't working for the itnerest of America and if given the opportunity would strike us again and possibly an important ally, Israel. Social libertarians believe that we are being attacked only because of our impact their affairs and that if we stopped, peace would come about, thereby limiting the price of oil.

These are some ideas, besides for makeing alternative energy, that we can use to limit the price of oil.
