How do you gain more followers on Tumblr?

I like the whole concept of Tumblr, but unfortunately I don't have followers. I'm sure it would be a more enjoyable experience with other people. So my question is: how do you get so many followers?
I know this isn't the right section but there's no section designated for Tumblr users, so I'm just asking here.
I'm afraid that wouldn't work, considering there's enough porn circulating through Tumblr. Anyway, that's not exactly the type of audience I'm targeting.

just follow people, mostly people who follow back. when people reblog your stuff your url show up on other peoples dashboards, so it wold be good if people reblogged your stuff. also, ask people things in theyre ask box, or chat with them. other people on theyre tumblr will see your url and might click it and follow you if they like your blog. ohhh and do promo for promos once you reach like 200 followers or so.

I know what you mean. I'm a fairly new blog and was stuck at 9 followers for about a week, but I later gained about 20 new followers in about two days by changing my activity up, by doing....
-Reblog 24/7. Reblog anything that will appeal to others and that others haven't seen before. Post your own stuff and add tags if you can't find much. Weheartit.com is a great source for pictures!
-Answer questions other users post. Ex, a popular blog I followed asked for cut off shorts, so I sent in a link and she gave me a major promo.
-Ask questions, never be anonymous. Just say "love your blog!! check mine out?!"
-Promote your blog. Popular blogs will post promos where you only have to Reblog a text post to get your URL posted. Just Reblog fast, since many blogs will only promote the first ten or fifty.
-On your blog, write that you follow back. You'll deff gain followers!

The point of tumblr isn't to gain followers. It's about posting what you like. And gradually, people with similar interests will follow you back.

Tips to getting more followers-
Post lots, don't go too long without posting something or your followers will lose interest.
Post interesting stuff, people don't want to see pictures of your cat or what you are wearing that day, it just isn't interesting.
Make posts that vary, like don't always post pictures, and don't always make text posts. That gets boring.
Advertise like you are on here.
Like and reblog people's pictures so your name gets out there more.
Reply to people's questions.
Ask people questions, like.. in their ask box. or just tell them you love their blog and stuff.
Tag your stuff, so when people search your posts come up.
And some people just follow back when you follow them.
