when you sign that contract with them and open a facebook page you agree with them sharing information...

i dunno about them selling but the companies pay them to advertise on facebook...

why else do you get all those pop ups and adverts when you log in...

they also taylor it to your taste...

so they wont advertise to you what you dont like.

and ever wonder where all those junk mails in your inbox suddenly come from?...now you know...

No they generally don't sell your personal information to 3rd Party Websites (they almost caught a lot of heat for this a few Years ago when they were just getting popular and never did it again).

The way the advertisers are generally able to tailor the Web Ads towards your tpye of interest are via Cookies, and the Facebook NT. When you visit a site that's part of the Facebook NT (like for example CNN), and sign-in to "share" an article, or post a comment, Facebook (much like Google does) tailors Ads towards your taste in browsing & reading habits.

They've actually been very good with listening to their users when it comes to their Terms of Service, and any time the Facebook users get overly upset with changes, they undo them or decide not to follow through with them (you've probably heard this mentioned many times in the news before on channels like CNN of Fox).

So unless anything drastic changes in the future, your really personal information is relatively safe, and isn't sold to 3rd Party sites. But, you should still be careful with what Apps you add or who you add as a Friend, as you may risk your Account getting hacked. But, it's definitely safer than a site like MySpace.

Hope that helps.
