How is China a communist country?
To me, China seems very capitalistic. They have markets, they have consumerism big buisnesses, the have Wal-Mart for god's sake! They have a huge divide between their rich and their poor. Isn't the idea of communism redistribution of wealth? So what classifies China as communist?

The government claims to be communist. Capitalism is being inserted because communism doesn't work.

They are free-market communists. Cuba uses the old USSR style communism.

the government pretty much owns most of the industries so that makes it socialist.

The Government of China are the ones who own the Major Business in China. The citizens do not have freedom of speech. And they do have a huge divide between the rich and poor. Much larger than here in the U.S. They do not have the hope of being able to better themselves. Once poor they are poor for life.

In Our country a person can become what ever they want. They can choose not to remain poor if they work hard and follow their dreams.

It's not. People who say otherwise need to get informed on Marxism theory. The means of production are privately owned, etc.

Communism is basically redistributing the wealth to make everyone equal. You can do this by taking everyone's wealth as Mao did.

If China is allowing different classes to grow based upon capitalist endeavors and not confiscating the profits, they are no longer practicing communists.

China is mixed socialism and capitalism.

There was never a true communist society on a national scale on this planet. Only small communities had true communism. Or in science fiction, such as Star Trek.

P.S. The people who still connect "freedom of speech" to communism should stop drinking anti-communist propaganda poison.
Capitalism =/= democracy
You sure can have capitalist dictatorship. You sure can have any of the above pairing up.
Bottom line, communism is nothing more than a social system. It has nothing to do with any of the bad things that anti-communist "free" press keep feeding to you since you were born.

Although, true communism will not work until the technology level reach the standard of those similar to Star Trek. And in order to achieve such level of technology and productivity, capitalism is required. <---- Marx actually said that...exclude the Star Trek part.
