Where to find a good free information site on building a business with blogging?
I need to start a home business to help replace wages lost through hours being cut at my work. I love writing info articles and have had many articles published in print. Now I think I'd like to make money with a blog but there's so much conflicting advice I'm confused already.

Your best best is to build a content site that has lots of content and all of it is specifically keyword related. One great source for building this type of site is sitebuildit and the offline version that is excellent to assist with this process is xsitepro. I use xsitepro to launch content sites and they rank very highly in the search engines as each page is tailored to one specific keyword.
You can view one of my sites as an example by going to
http://www.learncfds.com

Go to the site map and you'll notice over 150 pages on that one. From there you can back that up with article marketing to drive people to your site. Since you like writing articles my guess is you'll do very well at this.

Blogging is very easy but also very hard. First thing you need to do is decided how you are going to make money off of it.
Most blogs and websites that don't sale anything make money off of advertising space they sale on their blog. And the way they get advertisers to spend money on the ads is by having a steady flow of visitor traffic to your site.
Now that you know how to make money (on site advertising) You need to know how to set up a blog.
You will need to buy URL (domain name) and Hosting for it. GoDaddy is a popular one but personally I find it overly confusing and pushy because they always try to sale you more then what you want. I have built over 157 different blogs for work so I suggest using a company called Hostgator.com. Very reliable hosting and pricing and very easy to set up and tech support is very fast and accurate.
After your domain and hosting is set up, you need to install your blog sofware. Wordpress is the most popular right now and it is included s a script in HostGator so just ask them to install it for you and your are done. Play around with Wordpress to figure out how it works, but if you can use a Word Document editor then you can use wordpress.

As for content of your site you need to write about popular subjects in the news or right about what you know. Right product reviews, write How To and Help articles. Write often at least 3 times a week. Submit your specific post to social marketing sites like Digg and Reddit, word of mouth and get as many people you know to link to your blog and blog posts. Use specific keywords and use keyword tools like Googles to find out what words people are searching on.

Your site will start to grow in the search engines and your traffic will increase. Add Google analytics to your site to keep track of your visitor stats and traffic and be able to see which articles people like most on your site and how they found your site. Also when you are ready to sale ad space you can show clients how much traffic your site gets and exposure their ad will get daily weekly and monthly.

There is A LOT to this but this should be able to really get you started in the right direction. You can check out my personal test blog http://www.anythingbutcoffee.com for examples or feel free to message / email me if you want more specific answers.

writing articles for others will pay you cash and save you from spending money. Very few blogs out here make a nickel and most are an expense. I pay people to write content and then rewrite and again for the ones that can write for themselves. As a member of a blogging group with about 350 people in in Id say about 4 of them are making money. Do it for love or work for others if you want cash. Expect a year or two for a blog to really hit income, if at all. If youre in a bg city check out meetup.com
