A blog is a type of web site. You may want to take some time to develop some specific goals in regards to your online presence first.

You can either run a blog-centered web site mostly by yourself (which will provide more control & longevity) or use a developer-hosted blog service to start a blog (which will be more automated, easier, & cheaper). See http://www.problogger.net/archives/2006/...-platform/ for more details regarding your blogging options. If you want to create a blog or web site on a FREE platform, then you'll likely have to deal with ads or various restrictions. Also, blogs can be a feature in social-networking services. Social-networking sites - such as Facebook - have extended functions (like chatting, quizzing, and etc.) and are focused on connecting with other profiles.

Here are some online services to check out. Usually there are basic instructions on the front page or "Help" pages. Also, you should check to see what a service's policy is regarding profiting off the web site or blog. Initially, you just need to create an online free account by registering with one of the services. Then, you can figure out design and programming elements from there:

FREE SITE CREATION SERVICES:
Google Pages (http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Web_Space/ ).

FREE DEVELOPER-HOSTED BLOG SERVICES:
Blogger/Blogspot (http://www.tumblr.com/ ).

FREE SOCIAL-NETWORKING SERVICES WITH A BLOG FEATURE:
MySpace (http://www.gaiaonline.com/ ) are sites geared toward teenagers.

You also may want to check out http://social-networking-websites-review...views.com/ , which provides a listing of top services and features (excluding Yahoo! 360 from the blog list).

If you're going to use the site for business, it's probably best if you develop a marketing and profit plan first. Basically, construct a e-commerce business model. See details here: http://www.problogger.net/archives/2005/...rom-blogs/ .

NOTE: You may want to post future questions on this subject in the relevant Computers & Internet > Internet subcategory or in Computers & Internet > Programming & Design.

Go to Blogger.com and register a free blog, just like an email.
Within 10 minutes you will be writing your first blog-post.
