Is there a way to have a totally private Twitter account?

There are people I do not want to know I have a twitter account. Before I create an account I have questions.
Can I have a private account without someone being able to find me simply by "searching" my name in Twitter?
Would it be best not to use my real name?

First off, you'll want to log into Twitter using your username and password.

On the upper right-hand corner of the screen, you'll see "Settings." Click this.

Then you'll see the Account tab. Where it says "Protect my updates," make sure it is checked. Then hit the "Save" button.
