How do you start a T-shirt design company?
I want to create designs for upscale t-shirts. T-shirts that people wear when they go to clubs and bars. I already have the designs, where do I start with looking for an outlet.
Do most people print the designs themselves and try to sell them or do they send the designs to brand name companies?
Any help would be appreciated

I would love to do this too but being a small town girl i wouldn't know where to start. I agree with answer 1. Get expert advice. The number one thing to do to get a business up and running is to research, research, research! The experts will tell you this. Find some books on the net about starting your own business. I would try and find some people who are already in the t'shirt design business and get some advice from them. Its best to learn from the people who have been there, done that. Good luck with it all! : )

I can't believe you haven't heard of cafepress. I was in your shoes a few months ago and have found a lot of success at cafepress. And it is very simple.

Upload your designs, tag the art, pick your product, add your markup, enter descriptions and manage your sections. It is all pretty user friendly. The more you get into it the more you will be able to do.

The only definite advice I would give is get a premium shop. It will run you about $5/month but you have a lot more options here than with the free shop.

The hard part is getting customers to your shop. The CP Marketplace will draw in some sales but it takes a little more work to get the sales that really pay off. Network and learn as much as you can from experienced shopkeepers.

There is a large community of cafepress shopkeepers on social sites like Squidoo with lots of information to learn from. Here is a invitation to a Squidoo group that will help you: http://www.squidoo.com/group/create_lens...

Like I suggested, network, blog, join twitter and Squidoo. Anything to get the name of your shop out there. Exposure is the key!

Good luck.

The hard part is marketing your shop.
