Why does my yahoo mail show people following my twitter?

I don't twitter, tweet, warble, sing or play the banjo online. Who are these people and why do they think I want to share my oatmeal with them?

if you do not have a twitter at all then it is probably spam/fake emails being sent to your address.
If you do have a twitter but dont use it, it is probably spam twitter accounts following you. twitter sends notification emails to your email when you receive new followers
