How do you get more followers on Tumblr?

I got a Tumblr a few days ago and I only have 8 followers. Any advice on how to get more?

make your blog cute. my blog is trippinsh-t.tumblr.com and if you do a certain type of blogging your followers will pour in. try to send non-anon messages to popular people to get other blog's attention. that may help!

Well, you have to use tags to get people to find you if they don't follow you. They work the same way as hashtags on twitter. To get more followers, it helps to have a theme to your blog. It also helps to follow a bunch of other people with similar interests who might follow back.

About as much as I know, I only have 20 followers

4. Advertise on sites like Yahoo Answers (put your url above so people like me can see)

Honestly, post pictures of yourself or anything you post for that matter w/ tags on them. Relevant tags, sometimes tags that have nothing to do w/ what your posting but you know alot of people search that term. This is how your post get seen by everyone who does not follow you. Yeah, it's pretty simple. Here are some ways:

- Make sure you have a really good theme! Some popular themes include: http://www.themecloud.co/narnia-tumblr-theme.asp

- Do promo for promos! But make sure to check out people's FAQ if they have one, just in case they don't do promo for promos.

- Remember, when doing promo for promos, always delete your promos after about 10 minutes to keep your blog looking clean. A messy blog never looks good.

- Ask people to check out your blog!

- Never ask for one of these: Follow for a follow, or a follow back. It looks desperate. Ask people to check out your blog instead.

- Be KIND to your followers. If you're rude, people will unfollow you. Nobody likes to follow someone who is rude.

- You can also self promote on photos- but keep it short. Nobody likes big self promotes. For example, if you are a blue blog you could simply put- "Blue blog!" with a link to your blog.

- Reblog a lot, everybody loves active blogs. And many people unfollow once you're inactive for a few days.

- Participate in promo games! (e.g. First person to guess what movie I'm watching wins a promo) Not only are they fun, but if you win you win a promo!

And you'll find heaps of people who follow back once you follow them. Easy way to gain followers, although it is kind of cheating.
