I need creative marketing and PR ideas to promote?
my band. We have a gig coming up at a new venue and my goal is 200 people in the door. I advertise in the local entertainment papers and plaster posters. We have a decent following but not near 200. I have one month to put a solid marketing plan in place. Any creative and inexpensive ideas? Thanks!

Free drinks? Might get people there, but don't think you want to go there. lol. Do you have a band website? I done some work for some of my local indie bands, and most have gone to myspace as a big promotional tool. It is such a big social site, that it is easy to promote people to shows, and it is all free.

Who would be the target audience, or what type of a person is most likely attracted to your music so far. Take that thought and hit areas where you may find these people. See if you can do the posters in these key areas. Not just posters in any main area, where you'd find all kinds of targets.

Hi:

Good challenge! What you need to do is create a "buzz". Public Relations.

1. Get your fans to create a buzz by talking about you in Internet social sites

2..Get articles written about your band. Maybe some radio mentions.

3. Have a "good cause" tie in/with a sponsor (local restaurant, regional store etc) at the gig. Company sponsors (the prize money) have a contest or drawing where someone wins something big and the profits from the contest go to a "good cause" that is appealing to your band's target audience.

4. Go to other places where bands with similar music are performing and give out discounted tickets.

5. Have a contest at with schools for best design tee shirt for your band, announce at the gig. This might get more students involved .

6. Have contest where someone from the public can perform one song with your band (if appropriate) this might be fun and help you develop some free publicity.

Good Luck!!
