Fiscal conservatives: Do you support the Republican party?
The reason I'm asking this is because the more I look into it, the more it seems Republicans talk about responsible spending and lower taxes, but in reality the just lower taxes and rely on deficit spending to make-up the difference.

If you do support the Republican party, its it because of their fiscal policy or does it have more to do with their platform on social issues.

For the record, I am not trying to belittle anyone with this question. I'm just trying to understand the political landscape better.

The republican party has gone astray from it's core set of values " conservatism" . Look at who we nominated! John McCain is a big government, open borders, social program liberal.
I like the guy but he's not a conservative. We as republicans need to let the leaders know at the GOP that we want our values back & they have 4 years to produce a candidate with those values.

no i do not. over the years, the republicans have strayed too far from their 'core values' --> that is, if they even have some. the iraq war is costs 10 billion dollars a month, in military expenses. and goodness knows what they're doing waaayyy over there. and another thing. why lower taxes? the higher the tax, the more money can go towards helping the country's economy. so overall, its mainly their platform on social issues i have an issue with, which is why i support the democrats

No they really do like to give tax breaks to the greedy and welfare to big business and throw a few crumbs to the middle class and nothing to the poor.In fact they love to cut programs for those who need a helping hand to pay for the tax breaks for the greedy. But that`s not enough so they run our debt up and blame it on democrats. Not that the democrats are blameless they along with republicans love to add pork to any bill. Both parties don`t give a dam about us they care about themselves

I supported the Republican party in the past because of their stance on fiscal responsibility. I think the Republican party still stands for reduced taxes, coupled with reduced government spending, but GWB never got the memo.

George Bush's biggest failing as President is his failure to control government spending.

for the most part, i haven't seen a candidate with purely conservative values in awhile, so no, i don't currently support them. ideally, i'd like to see someone who advocates a non-interventionist government with a free market (uh, but that'd debatable in these times, haha) and low/no taxes.

for just about everyone i know who does support the republican party right now, i'm quite sure that they're doing it because of party loyalty, not necessarily because they are partial to the respective platforms. some people are so blinded by their allegiance to their party that they forget exactly what the candidates themselves are saying, unfortunately.
