How can i start my own blog?

I really want to make a blog, and many people have told me i should, but where do i start? I want something free.

A friend told me to get my own website and make money, but i do not want to recieve any money at all.

There are alot of ways to create free blogs.
 
You can use Wordpress and Blogger for this purpose.  It depends a lot about what you want your blog for and who your audience is.  
 

To be a successful blogger you have to try to:
1. Produce quality content that targets the right market
2. Optimize it for the search engines
3. Have it correctly monetized so your visitors are funneling through to your money pages.
4. Drive traffic to the site through a variety of means, search engines, social networks, articles, linking building, network sites, trackbacks, rss feeds and MANY more.
