Actually you are ignorant. Most poor people who are employed are disgusted by social programs, they would be ashamed to use them, and they are offended by people who use those programs. You can be poor and have a job Wink Plus, its much easier to get a job, when the company doesn't cut jobs, and raise the price of their products to deal with increased taxes.

this has always been the quintisential issue (besides perhaps religion) that has always screwed the dems. it is mainly because of a misunderstanding of the economy that the republican "trickle down effect" will work. lack of education (another pitfall: those at the bottom have the LEAST ability to work their way up) makes them vote against their economic self interest. if the republicans are so concerned about our economic well being, they would let us have our money up front, instead of some sham of reinvesting in corporations, for some fairy tale return of the money, with interest.

FOR YEARS THE UNDERCLASS BLINDLY VOTED FOR THE
DEMS. AND WAITED FOR THEM TO DELIVER THERE AMERICAN DREAM. MAYBE THEY HAVE LEARNED THE BIG SOCIAL PROGRAMS YOU TALK ABOUT DON'T HELP YOU UP BUT HOLD YOU DOWN. YOU KNOW THE SAYING
GIVE HIM A FISH BUT DON'T TECH HIM HOW TO FISH.
JUST ASK THE BLACK COMMUNITY ABOUT HOW SOCIAL PROGRAMS KEEP YOU DOWN. ITS WORKED REAL WELL FOR THEM.

Well, for one reason, the poor also like the idea of having jobs. And many liberal positions are antithetical to job creation.

How about the liberal love of unions, for instance. Do you think it's any coincidence that all the new car manufacturing plants are being built in Tennessee, Alabama, and South Carolina? Of course not. Taxes are lower there. And there are no unions. No ridiculous pensions. No demands from union bosses. Just workers. Either that, or businesses are taking off and moving overseas. You can't regulate the free market--you just make it inefficient.

And you always hear liberals complaining about Bush's tax cuts for the "richest 1%." You do realize that small businesses are included in that richest 1%, don't you? Yes, liberals want to raise taxes on small businesses. Small businesses that create 60% of new jobs. Small businesses with the greatest prospects for growth.

Now, I ask: if you want to get ahead in life, would you rather take a job at a small business? Or get your check in the mail from the government? Dumb question, right?

As for more money for education....as if that works. Take a look at California and Washington, DC, schools to see that in action. Singapore's schools annihilate ours. You think they spend as much? ha!
