Yea definitely...without any doubt..
If your service or product is one which people search online then u surely need SEO.
It is the best form of advertising.....

But don't fall prey to $1000 SEO will ake you to top of the page or $2000 to first page instantly.
It's very simple to do and you can do it yourself.

you can use one of or combination of:

local seo (optimize website for you google in you country)
search engine advertising (eg google adwords)
social media
social media advertising (eg facebook ads)
email marketing
direct marketing/promotion/sales
affiliate
active in your local/regional online forum/network

submit your site to google places it is free and you will be above the main searches in google (first page) if you type in "roofers salt lake city" the local results will usually show up first. this is free to submit to and it also includes all of your business./contact information

I think the best way is to start with Google AdWords. While you have a campaign going, a company could work on getting your site up organically. This way you will have traffic immediately but in the future you won't have to keep paying Google for the clicks.
