What is wrong with kids these days? Why are they trying to grow up so fast?

I REALLY DO THINK IT IS THE TV. I'M 20 SOON TO BE 21 AND I DON'T LIKE TO WATCH TV . I HATE TV. WITH MY JOB IT IS FROM SUN UP TO SUN DOWN. I CARE HOW I LOOK BUT IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS (I WEAR MAKE-UP, AND I THINK I LOOK BEAUTIFUL WITH IT ON BUT I HATE PUTTING IT ON ) AT MY HOUSE WE HAVE 3 TV MY ROOM ONLY HAS A RADIO. ALOT OF KIDS SEE THEIR CELEBS OR OLDER KIDS ON TV AND LOOK UP TO THE THINGS THEY SAY, DO ,PREFER AND SUGGEST. I LOOKED UP TO MY MOM AND SISTER AS A KID AND STILL TO THIS DAY. THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE NEVER WORE MAKE-UP AND THEY ARE NOT 120 POUNDS. THEY COULD BE ROCKET SCIENTIST (AND I WOULD PUT MY LIFE ON IT). I LOOK AT A LOT OF THEIR FRIENDS AND THEY WORSHIP THESE 2 WOMEN

You think this is sad try being 2o something and see it.
I have a 7 year old girl and we went to get clothes for Christmas in the mall. The particular store we went in to had sparkly bra's and panties for her age. WTF!! You can hardly find anything that doesn't yell "I FEEL LIKE A GROWN UP IN THIS, DO I LOOK LIKE ONE" or how about the hoochy momma clothes they sell for children.
Everything is so superficial these days and everywhere you look these little kids are dressed like little hoes most of the time.
My child told me that she wanted to dress like Brittany Spear's when she was 4. She wanted to wear a short shirt and show her stomach like her. Of course I said no!!!
I went to school with a girl, back in the day, that would not leave her house if she didn't have make-up on. She was in the 5th grade. That is ridiculous.
So, I'm pretty sure allot of it has to do with the media, and other kids doing it. Some parents just don't care, while others don't pay
attention.
It's a sad sad world out there.
And you know what gets me the most? Parent's who wonder why their child got raped when they left the house with their butt hanging out and only a fourth of a shirt on.

media, the times are changing and the media is portraying what "real teens" in to with television and the kids watching the shows think thats what real life is like and thats the stuff they need to be in to. i dont neccisarily think its that we're trying to grow up fast, we just are influenced.

I guess maybe they try to be more mature. Its either peer pressure, self-image,self confidence,BLAH!Im twelve and people say that i dont act my age. They say im childish.Well i guess i am.Im just afraid that maybe when i grow up i wont be able to do these things anymore because of work, etc.Im just really bothered that my friends act as if they are 15.Im pity them cause after pretending to be A TEEN at a young age, they will just regret it when they have wrinkles on their face.

Like you , i just like ride my bike, play basketball(seriously, girls say that i shouldnt play outside cause ill just get darker).Children like my friends pretend to be older. They try to grow up so fast. What they dont know is that time can never be changed and when the time comes they will just regret it.So yeah,I agree with you.

Well, they see the world a little differently than we do. They see it as a scary place. Looking around they see people with wrinkles, people who are overweight, they see the blind, the deaf, the mute, and the not so pretty people.

They fear to be like that. I'm your age, and I still remember doing stuff like that. Now, all I hear out of my younger brothers mouth is *****
********************************************************************************************************
Then again, all of his friends are doing it to. It is absolutley ridiculous.

Kids need to stop growing up so fast and try to live the life all kids should live. They need to ride their bikes, and go down to the creek to catch fish. Even just go and pretend that they are great hunters. (Idk)

Media has a huge effect on it, because all they tell kids to do is grow up. No matter how much we try, they are going to listen to the media more than they are us.

Well I'm 16 and I agree kids are trying to grow up too fast... but when I was 13 I wore tons of makeup and I dressed way to sexy for my age (I was going to bars and stuff and hardly ever got ID'd)... Its kinda normal around here (in BC Canada)... I was anorexic by 9, drinking by the age of 11, doing drugs by 13... Its just a way of life... But I do agree with you now that I've matured some...

Kids are growing up to fast because the parents let them grow up to fast.

Parents control what their children watch on TV, what type of music they listen to, what clothes they buy from the store for the child to wear, how much makeup their allowed, etc...

So in my opinion, its the parents that's the problem not the kids.

P.S. Not all kids are "growing up to fast".

im 16... and i dont really care about any of that stuff... i dont wear makeup wat so ever.... the only thing i worry about is making sure i dont get overweight, but i dont obsess about it, and i dont diet.. just excersise.... and im really focussed on school... yes i love shopping as well lol, and of course guys =]]

but i dont really think it has much to do with media.... they just wanna be older. they're rushing too much. they dont relize once they grow up, thats it they can never go back. they have no clue how difficult it can be being an adult....since they have it easy now, they think it will always be like that.

but this doesnt apply TO EVERY KID OUT THERE. just a alot
