How are people finding me on Twitter and asking to follow me?
I don't know them at all. I would also like a way to search for people to follow, perhaps by category?

When you are logged in to your Twitter account look to the right side of the screen and you will see Home, @Replies, Direct Messages, etc. There is a tab marked Everyone. That is how random people find you. I have found most strangers that "follow" you are trying to promote some type of business. I don't think you can search people by category, only by name or through the Everybody tab.
